Vanishing of The Bees and Why They Matter

Vanishing of The Bees and Why They Matter

Honey bees, crucial to our environment and dinner tables, are still disappearing all over the world. But YOU can make a difference. After nearly four years of production, Vanishing of the Bees, narrated by Oscar-nominated Ellen Page (Juno) is ready to fly! Described by the press as "the most important film since An Inconvenient Truth," this full-length documentary explores the phenomenon known as Colony Collapse Disorder, our current agricultural landscape and celebrates the ancient and sacred connection between humans and honeybees. The film follows commercial beekeepers David Hackenberg and Dave Mendes as they strive to keep their bees healthy and fulfill pollination contracts across the U.S. and features authorities like Jay Feldman of Beyond Pesticides and Food Activist and Author Michael Pollan.

How You Can Help

As a part of their Bee the Change Campaign, the filmmakers are looking for members to join their hive and host screenings and/or help create a buzz in a massive outreach movement aimed at raising awareness and affecting change. Hive members are responsible for setting up event screenings in local theaters or in venues like churches, libraries and schools. Friends of the bees can also host a screening in other spaces for smaller groups - maybe even in your home. No venue is too small or too big! To help host a screening you can pair up with an environmental group, gardening club, beekeeping association, Permaculture Group, Women's Alliance, or other organization concerned about bees, our food and the environment. You can use the film as a tool to raise funds and awareness for your own Mission. Here is the movie trailer:
