Body Oil or Massage Oil, What's The Difference?

Body Oil or Massage Oil, What's The Difference?

We here at Plantlife frequently receive a great question and we thought it was high time to address this question publicly. What is the difference between Plantlife Body Oils and Massage Oils?
From viscosity to therapeutic benefit, there are several noticeable variances in the composition of these products. That being said, both the Massage Oils and Body Oils contain 100% pure, therapeutic grade (Grade A) essential oils.

A word about carrier oils:

By definition, carrier (aka base or vegetable) oils come from plants and are usually pressed from the kernels, seeds or nuts. In aromatherapy, they are used to dilute essential oils prior to topical application.
We have specially formulated all our body and massage oils from specific carrier oils known for their excellent topical and therapeutic benefits. It is especially important to note that all of the carrier oils we use are 100% pure, food grade oils. This means our carrier oils (each individually) are FDA approved for consumption. We all know what nourishes the body, nourishes the skin!

Our chosen base oils:

Apricot Kernel – This pure oil is light yet emollient and is high in oleic and linoleic acids. It is recommended for mature, sensitive, inflamed, irritated or dry skin making it quite a versatile oil. Apricot Kernel is a base for all of our body oils.
Sweet Almond – This high quality nut oil is a great for softening and conditioning the skin. It is rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E. Sweet Almond is light and easily penetrates the skin. It is used in both our Massage and Body oils.
Jojoba – Jojoba offers the traits of both an oil and a wax to make it an ideal ingredient for massage oil formulation. Jojoba closely resembles the natural sebum within our skin and can help balance the skin’s natural oil. It contains a natural anti-inflammatory called myristic acid and can aid those who suffer from arthritis and rheumatism.
Grapeseed – Research suggests Grape Seed Oil is beneficial in the treatment of such conditions as acne and dermatitis, age spots, sunburn, rheumatoid arthritis, winkles and stretch marks to name a few. The skin absorbs this oil quickly without leaving the dreaded greasy residue behind.
Massage Oil Base –  When properly mixed with other essential oils, it creates a massage oil with a beautiful aroma and easily glides with the motions of massage.

So what’s the big difference?

Plantlife Massage Oils were designed from some of the aforementioned carrier oils for a thicker concentration of oil that glides smoothly during massage. Additionally, we created specially formulated, synergistic therapy essential oil blends for every massage oil we carry.
Plantlife Body Oils were formulated especially to create soft and silky skin, using rich plant oils that quickly absorb and leave a light aroma.
The oils are versatile and somewhat interchangeable in that you can certainly use the body oil as lighter massage oil if desired. Plantlife massage oil can be used as a body oil to help condition and soften the skin, keeping it moisturized through the drying winter months.

How to use:

Massage Oil: Simply rub oil into tense or sensitive areas as needed or apply to moist skin after bathing.
Body Oil: For best results, apply to clean, damp skin after a shower or bath. Body oil can also be added to a warm bath for a soothing and fragrant bathing experience!
