Be Your Best Beach Bum

Be Your Best Beach Bum

Basking in the sun on a sandy beach listening to the roar of the surf is one of the joys of summer. But we all know the sun can take a toll on your skin and hair. A trip to the seaside doesn’t have to be a guilty pleasure if you pack your beach bag with sunscreen (natural of course), a floppy hat, a bottle of water and four essential oils to restore your body and mind.

Peppermint

Breathing peppermint’s fresh, minty and slightly sweet aroma can cool and refresh your senses and ease an after-sun headache. If you’re stuck in stop-and-go traffic on the way to or from the beach or enjoying a boat ride, peppermint can also relieve motion sickness. To take the heat out of a sunburn, mix a few drops of Plantlife’s Peppermint essential oil with organic aloe vera gel — for maximum benefits, make sure it’s pure! — and smooth on to scorched skin to cool and relieve.

Lemon

For sun-kissed summer hair, skip the dodgy drugstore products and make your own heavenly highlighting potion. Simply add several drops of our Lemon essential oil — it has a clean, zesty, refreshing scent — to a spray bottle full of water. Then add a teaspoon of coconut oil to condition hair and prevent dryness. Spray into hair, lie back and let the sun work its magic!

Note: Citrus oils cause the skin to absorb sunlight faster, which can lead to accelerated sunburn and hyper-pigmentation. Avoid the use of lemon oil on your skin in direct sunlight.

Geranium

The strong, floral aroma of this essential oil is known to help balance emotions and relieve skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis and shingles. For beach bums, geranium’s therapeutic properties can help soothe skin dried out from the sun and salt. Just add a couple drops of our Geranium oil to your favorite moisturizer and spread generously over thirsty skin. The scent may also keep those pesky sand flies at bay.

Lavender

Lavender essential oil is the best for sunburned skin. It’s gentle enough for even tender, sensitive skin. Add a few drops to aloe vera gel to help soothe and heal sun burned skin.

Don’t forget Plantlife’s Lavender or Herbal Lip Balm for after sun care for those dry lips.

Now, all you need is a smoldering beach read!
