Apricot

Apricot

Apricot is a fruit that grows on the Apricot tree from the genus Prunus. The kernel inside the Apricot fruit is cold-pressed to make Apricot Kernel oil or Apricot Kernel powder by grinding the nut into a fine powder. Apricot Kernels have been used often in traditional Chinese medicine and the tree is believed to have originated in western Asia.

The oil from Apricot Kernels is light, absorbs quickly, and helps smooth and soften the skin leaving it feeling hydrated and nourished. Apricot Kernel oil is used throughout cosmetics, massage, and body care as it is non-irritating, anti-inflammatory, and is excellent for dry, inflamed skin as well as mature and sensitive skin types. It is rich in gamma linoleic acid or GLA, which comes from essential fatty acid omega-6. The GLA content in Apricot Kernel oil helps skin to maintain a healthy moisture balance. Additionally, Apricot Kernel oil is high in vitamin A and E, which helps the skin retain elasticity, suppleness and slow signs of aging. For hair, this oil can help condition and restore moisture to dry, damaged hair. This oil has a mild to no aroma and has a thin consistency. It's color can range from clear to pale yellow. We recommend a shelf life of about 2 years. The powder from Apricot Kernels is typically used in exfoliation products.
